RNAS Twatt August 2009
I never take enough time to have a good look about Orkney but 6 years ago I took the time to have a proper visit to RNAS Twatt which is the most complete wartime aerodrome left in Orkney.
There are plans afoot between the Birsay Heritage Trust and A.R.G.O.S. (Aviation Research Group Orkney and Shetland) to restore parts of this site, in particular the control tower and these photographs were taken after the site had been cleaned out.

You wouldn’t believe these photos were taken within 20 minutes of one another.
One side of the hill was glorious and this was to the south over Scapa Flow

There are some astonishing pictures on Facebook today of the Aurora Borealis. Only tried it once and they were not a tremendous success but loads of time to practice as they only happen when everyone seems to be in bed.
